20.5 Bethell the rampant salmon prises the opening! Archer squared up Latham on the full length, he was aiming something expansive off the pads, found a fat leading edge, and Bethell at gully saw it all the way off the edge despite the shot selection, pulled out the two-handed dive high to this right, and plucked down a superb take! England have their opening! 58/2
5.6 has Conway been strangled down leg?! Oh yes, he has. Conway walks, and Fisher breaks through on comeback! This is short and sneaking down leg. There to be swiped away but Conway somehow manages to glove it rather than middle it. Easy catch for Rew to get his Test catching career underway, and Conway will be disappointed with his manner of dismissal. Not that England or Fisher will care! 14/1
28.4 chopped on, and Tongue wipes out Nicholls just after lunch! On the shorter side just outside off and this climbs through a shade. Nicholls does not move his feet at all, almost like he is pre-empting the short ball. Dangles his bat out very tentatively and the ball cannons off the inside edge to crash into the stumps. England with a breakthrough early in the second session, and one of the set batters is now back in the shed! 79/3
35.2 nicked and gone! And Baker is cooking too now! A maiden Test wicket, and Ravindra has to go! Back of a length outside off. Goes on with the angle and Ravindra tries to open his bat face and glide it behind point. Cannot keep it down, though, owing to the extra pace and bounce, and the ball arrows towards Bethell at gully, who makes no mistake. NZ in a spot of bother now! 107/4
52.5 plonked to short mid wicket, and Baker roars in delight! Banged in short outside off and this seems like an effort ball because this climbs up on Mitchell. He has a swipe at it but he splices it terribly due to the extra pace and bounce. Easy catch for Gay, and that is a massive, massive wicket, given Mitchell's past exploits against England! 188/5
67.4 winds into a big yahoo, plucked down at midwicket! Root timed his leap, parried the fast-travelling ball, settled under the rebound and gathered coolly on the second attempt. Blundell just opened his stance, looking to take the spinner down... a bit more elevation and he'll have nailed that. Instead, a timely breakthrough to enter the final 45 minutes 263/6

96.2 holes out this time! Phillips' mighty innings is over, as Emilio Gay at deep midwicket gobbles up a thumping pull. He didn't quite connect cleanly as Fisher cramped his intentions... and Gay is the first off the pitch to go and prepare himself for a 10-minute ordeal! 391/10
73.4 horrible full-toss, somehow ends up in Cox's hands! Smith was too eager to launch that over the leg-side, it seemed to come off the back of his honk across the line, a spiralling top-edge, for leg slip to trot back and swallow a late-evening freebie! They all count! 280/7
89.3 bowled him! The drinks break has done the trick. Jamieson lost his shape momentarily, sliding onto the back foot, looking to heave the ball high over the leg-side, but Bethell's angle from round the wicket simply slid on through his intentions, to peg back the leg stump. That's his third, and each of them has been a bit of a donation. Nevertheless, a mighty knock from the big man 367/8
95.4 hacked high in the air, Henry's work is done! He'll played a holding role for his partner, but decides this next one has to go. A hard length outside off, a wild swipe high into the off-side... Josh Tongue steadies himself at short cover, and makes no mistake 391/9

7.5 oh dear - that is a very poor call, and a terrible outcome for England! Length ball outside off. Gay drops it into the off side and calls for the single. Not sure if Duckett responded instantly but this seemed a tight run from the off. Smith swoops in from mid off, picks it up one-handed and then throws down the stumps at the batter's end. Duckett barely in the frame when the stumps are disturbed. Gay has his hands on his head, and England lose their tone-setting opener! 45/1
33.5 oh - what has happened there?! Bashed into the track outside off. Gay takes his eyes off it and gets into a tangle. He seems to get his gloves out of the way in time, but a few in the slip cordon think the ball has grazed the glove on the way. NZ review, just in the nick of time. Oh dear - this is a very bizarre way to get out. Gay's top hand seemed to come off the bat and it got jammed near the handle. The ball, zipping through, kissed the shoulder of the bat, and that will be that for Gay in this innings Not sure if he lost sight of the ball mid-way or was just done in by the angle. Either way, a superb review, it must be said, and O'Rourke breaks through! 142/3
16.4 nicked off, and swallowed by the keeper! That's a lovely bit of bowling from Smith. Harrassing that length outside off, with good zip and lift off the seam. He could, probably should, have left it, but it was just tight enough to tempt him down the line, and that's a sharp take from Blundell, travelling fast between himself and first slip 68/2
40.5 nailed in front of the stumps! Up goes the finger... Root reviews but this looks awfully tight. It was full, it was zippy, it crashed back into the knee-roll, and it didn't have far to travel with the batter pinned in the crease by the keeper standing up. Umpire's call on impact, but smashing the top of middle! He looked like he wanted to leave, and was in no position to adjust to the movement 170/4
42.1 plumb lbw! Brook doesn't even bothering thinking of the review! Henry's harassing line and length, with a hint of movement back in off the seam, finds the knee-roll with the batter pinned in the crease. Brook didn't much like the keeper standing up in the Ashes, and the same trick has messed with his mojo today. Static feet, hands and eyes unable to compensate in time. And now New Zealand are on the march... 177/5
55.5 plays the pull again, gloved to slip! Rew is unable to make his luck count, but that's kudos to O'Rourke who refused to let his quarry off the hook! Short and awkward from over the wicket, the debutant was beaten for pace and tried the aggressive option, but couldn't get anything substantial through it. Mitchell backpedalled at first slip, and now England are in bother with stumps looming! 217/6
62.1 sharp grab by Latham at short mid wicket, and Cox has to depart! This is a pretty innocuous delivery. Full and sliding into the pads, and Cox thinks a boundary is there for the taking. He cannot keep his flick down, though, and he hits it too close to Latham, who lunges low to his right and snaps it up smartly. Cox disappointed, and NZ have taken a giant stride towards bowling England out early! 235/7
64.4 nicked and taken! Archer cannot believe it, and England are eight down now! Props to Blundell for taking this too, having been up to the stumps. Short and wide. Archer thinks he can lash this through point. Does not show enough conviction, though. A half-hearted waft in the end and Blundell gobbles it up superbly. England on the brink of being rolled over! 236/8

66.6 oh, what a catch, eventually! And Henry has five! Fullish outside off and this seems to stick in the surface a shade. Tongue, looking to go downtown, clinks it off the toe-end. Smith runs back from mid on, parries it into the air and somehow, while falling to the turf, plucks it out of the air one-handed with his right. Not sure he will be able to replicate that even if he tried, but he will not care one bit. England nine down now! 238/9
83.6 and the fun ends! Finally, Jamieson hits paydirt, a perfect length angled into the right-hander, straightening just enough to kiss the splice of a firm block, as Baker was obliged to defend his off stump. A fast chance to second slip, and the deficit is exactly 100! 291/10

2.1 nicked and gone! An absolute jaffa from Jofra, and the NZ skipper is outta here! Back of a length outside off. Perfect seam presentation and the ball decks away after pitching. Latham forced to play at it due to the angle from around the wicket, and he feathers it through to the keeper. Brilliant from Archer, and just the start England would have been after! 8/1
8.1 and Tongue into the wickets straightaway too! Length ball outside off and Conway goes for an ambitious drive on the up. A hint of seam movement away and the ball flies off the outside edge, only to be snaffled up smartly by Brook at second slip. Conway with a very loose shot, and NZ in a spot of bother now, despite their 100-run lead! 28/2
58.1 edged and taken this time! And it is Brook at the newly-placed second slip position that finishes off the job! Back of a length in the channel and moving away with the angle. Nicholls feels the need to go fishing at it away from his body and does so with hard hands too. Healthy nick and Brook makes no mistake on this occasion. Just reward for Archer, some would say, and he runs all the way to fine leg to celebrate. NZ lose their overnight centurion! 261/4
41.4 fuller, and pinned in front! This will be reviewed, but I reckon that was just in line. It rather floated out of Bethell's fingers, maybe fuller than anticipated... he was through the sweep early, and nailed on the shin... sure enough, umpire's call on impact, smashing middle! 189/3

82.3 Mitchell goes for the scoop, and sees his stumps shattered! Beaming smile on Fisher's face, and this is a dismissal borne out of NZ's need for quick runs. On a length on off. Mitchell walks across and tries to lap it away but only hears the rattling of off stump soon after. Mitchell has to walk back for 68, and England have a bit of respite right at the start of the session! 349/7
67.1 a Root parry at leg slip, and Rew grabs the rebound! Full and sliding down leg. Blundell looks yo tickle it fine but flicks it uppishly. Root is stood there for exactly that possibility but he makes a mess of his catch on the first go. The ball, luckily for him, lobs up and Rew is on hand to take it, despite Root, in trying to redeem himself, almost bumping into the debutant. Scrappy catching, but England will take it! 290/5
70.2 flashed to gully! Archer's pace does the trick! No footwork from Phillips as he thrust his hands through the full, wide line. A very fast, flat nick straight to Bethell, in front of his face. Another timely breakthrough for England, who might be batting before long if the start of this second hour is any indication 307/6
86.6 goes a mile up, and taken! Back of a length outside off. Smith has an agricultural mow at it and only gets the height he wants. Nothing in terms of distance and Gay, circling under it in the square leg region, does the rest. NZ nine down, and with their lead now 462! 362/9
84.6 middle stump out of the ground, and Fisher has the last laugh! Brilliant out-swinger, fullish and starting on middle and leg, before curving away. Jamieson gives himself room and swings for the hills. Misses it completely and sees his middle stump flat on the ground soon after. England keep chipping away! 355/8
87.1 another high ball, and that will be that for NZ in this innings. England set 463 to take this series! Back of a length outside off. Henry has a whoosh across the line now and slices it terribly. Duckett settles under it at extra cover and brings this NZ innings to a close! 362/10

13.1 ugh, what a hopeless shot! That is such a rank dismissal, it doesn't even qualify for a rank! Private Pile areas from Duckett, as he swung across another bouncy O'Rourke delivery from round the wicket, somehow got his shot away off the tippy-toe of his bat, and looped a lollipop of a catch to short midwicket! Inadvertently, Duckett proves the point that he's better off just going for it every time... 40/3
3.2 flicked straight to mid wicket, and Ravindra holds on this time! Gay dejected as he walks off, and a bit of redemption for Ravindra, who dropped a regulation catch at that position in the first Test. This is a full ball on middle, and there to be clipped. Gay cannot keep it down, though, and he throws his hand on his head the moment the catch is taken. NZ on the board! 13/1
3.6 plumb with a capital P, and second-innings Bethell is back for an early shower too! Length ball in the channel and this decks back in sharply. Bethell props onto the front foot and plays outside the line completely. Misses that by a mile in the end, and the ball pins him on the knee roll of the front pad. Bethell rightly does not review, with Ball Tracking returning three reds, and England are two down in a trice! 13/2
50.1 given lbw but Root reviews. The keeper up makes sure Root is stuck to the crease. Henry's skill has the ball landing on the fuller side of the good length and wobbling in off the pitch. Beats the inside edge. Ultra-Edge says no bat. Ball-tracking says... three reds! Spectacular discipline from Henry. Solid plan from NZ. Warm applause from The Oval crowd as one of the best to ever do it walks back. Root would've been desperate to stay on and make a game of it. With his wicket, it looks ever more certain that NZ will be squaring the series. 188/6
32.4 edged and deflected to slip! Huge moment for New Zealand as the drinks break does the trick! Brook leant forward to that relentless length, the ball I think flicked off Blundell's thigh, or tip of glove, as well before nestling in Mitchell's hands. It was thrilling while it lasted, but now England are back up against it! 137/4
45.3 massive lbw shout, not given! NZ review! Shortish and honing into middle and off. Keeps a little low and that meddles with Rew's swipe. He gets pinged on the thigh and this could be close. Height could be an issue. Bat nowhere near the ball. Time for Ball Tracking now. It comes up and...it shows the ball to be missing off and leg because it is crashing into the top of middle. Props to Jamieson for convincing his skipper for the review, and England rocked again! 180/5

58.1 NZ level the series with Henry taking 11 wickets. Simple you miss, I hit stuff from the NZ quick who goes full and straight and Cox sweeping isn't able to get bat to it. Best figures for a New Zealander against England in Test matches. 209/10
50.3 through him. Archer reacts as though this ball keeps low. And it absolutely has. Rude little shooter pitching on a good length and leaving the stumps an utter mess. No chance of getting the bat down in time. Eight wickets in the Test for Henry. England have three left standing. Great chance for him to pick up his first Test match ten-for. 188/7
52.5 he's hunting that 10-for. Goes into the wicket and the ball doesn't come on as much as Fisher wants it to and why would it on a fifth day pitch? The back foot punch that he attempts and eventually tries to check only ends up as an inside edge directing the ball back onto his stumps 192/8
52.6 Henners has tenners. Too good from NZ's metronome. Certainly for a No. 10. Pitches it up. Gets it to move away. Tongue prods at it. Manages only an outside edge that settles safely in Latham's hands who must be thrilled with how this game's gone. A first Test match 10-for after three nine-fors for Henry. This was his first wicket at The Oval with Blundell standing back 192/9
