What the Packers can expect in the draft: Third round

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Now that we know how many selections the Green Bay Packers will have in the April 30-May 2 NFL draft and exactly where those picks fall in each round, we can get a better idea what kind of players general manager Ted Thompson might be able to land.

With that in mind, let's look at the recent players selected at the Packers' draft position in each round.

Last week, we looked at players selected at No. 30 overall and No. 62 overall, where the Packers will pick in the first and second rounds.

Now, let's move to the third round, where Packers have the 94th overall pick. Here's a look at the players selected at that spot the last five years:

  • 2014 -- Terrance West, RB, Towson (Cleveland Browns): Split carries with fellow rookie Isaiah Crowell, an undrafted free agent, and finished with a team-high 673 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Had one game with 100-yards rushing and went over 90 yards in two others.

  • 2013 -- Brandon Williams, DT, Missouri Southern (Baltimore Ravens): Started 14 games last season in his second year and will be counted on even more after the trade that sent Haloti Ngata to the Detroit Lions this offseason.

  • 2012 -- Jayron Hosley, CB, Virginia Tech (New York Giants): Has one career interception in 29 games. Missed first four games of 2014 to serve a suspension for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy and appeared in only six games total last season.

  • 2011 -- Kendrick Ellis, DT, Hampton (New York Jets): Never quite became the run-stopper the Jets hoped, made just five NFL starts in four years and then signed a one-year, $1.65 million contract with the New York Giants this offseason.

  • 2010 -- Kevin Thomas, CB, USC (Indianapolis Colts): Has been out of the NFL since he was released by the Philadelphia Eagles before the 2012 season. Missed his entire rookie season because of a knee injury and then played in nine games (including five starts) in 2011 before he was traded to the Eagles.

We'll look at the recent players selected in the spots where the Packers pick in rounds four through seven the rest of this week.
