What Packers can expect in draft: Second round

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Now that we know how many selections the Green Bay Packers will have in the April 30-May 2 NFL draft and exactly where those picks fall, we can get a better idea what kind of players general manager Ted Thompson might be able to land.

With that in mind, let's look at the recent players selected at the Packers' draft position in each round.

On Thursday, we looked at recent players selected at No. 30 overall, where the Packers will pick in the first round.

Let's move to the second round, where the Packers have the 62nd overall pick. Here's a look at the players selected at that spot the last five years:

  • 2014 -- Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, Eastern Illinois (Patriots): Spent all of last season as Tom Brady's backup and appeared in six games, completing 19-of-27 passes for 182 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. Viewed by many as the eventual replacement for Brady.

  • 2013 -- Christine Michael, RB, Texas A&M (Seahawks): Played in just four games as a rookie, and last season was held out early because of a hamstring injury before playing in 10 games as the No. 3 running back behind Marshawn Lynch and Robert Turbin. Has only 52 carries for 254 yards (a 4.9-yard average) in two NFL seasons.

  • 2012 -- Casey Hayward, CB, Vanderbilt (Packers): In line for a starting job this season after spending his first three years as a part-time player in sub packages. Has nine interceptions in basically two seasons (he played only three games in 2013 because of a hamstring injury), including six picks to lead all rookies in 2012.

  • 2011 -- Marcus Gilbert, T, Florida (Steelers): Became an immediate starter as a rookie and other than the 2012 season, when he missed 11 games because of an ankle injury, he has been a regular starter at right tackle. Signed a six-year, $30.8 million contract extension last August.

  • 2010 -- Brandon Spikes, LB, Florida (Patriots): After four seasons with the Patriots, played last season for the Bills on a one-year, $3 million deal and was a part-time player serving mostly as a run-stopper.

We'll look at the recent players selected in the spots where the Packers pick in rounds three through seven next week.
