          Ex-Red Sox make impact, starting with Jon Lester, Yoenis Cespedes

          PHILADELPHIA -- Will Middlebrooks appears to have won the starting third-base job for the San Diego Padres. Yoenis Cespedes had a great spring for the Detroit Tigers and is slotted in the No. 6 hole in their lineup. Rubby De La Rosa is starting the season in the No. 3 spot in the Arizona Diamondbacks' rotation, his 99 mph fastball outweighing 10 walks in 12-plus innings.

          And Jon Lester, well, you know where he’ll be: front and center on ESPN’s "Sunday Night Baseball," wearing a Chicago Cubs uniform and facing the St. Louis Cardinals in the season opener at Wrigley Field.

          Here’s a rundown of where Red Sox players who were in Boston last season are headed into the 2015 season:

          • Reliever Burke Badenhop signed as a free agent and won a spot in the Cincinnati Reds' bullpen.

          • Cespedes posted a .311/.323/.639/.962 slash line this spring and looms as another big bat behind Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez. Cespedes will play left field.

          • De La Rosa went 0-1 with a 3.75 ERA and is scheduled to start the D-Backs’ third game of the season.

          • Pitcher Felix Doubront was released by the Cubs, then signed to a minor-league contract by the Blue Jays.

          • Outfielder Alex Hassan hit .444 (8 for 18) but had hamstring problems and was optioned by Oakland to Triple-A Nashville.

          • Jonathan Herrera won a spot as a backup infielder for the Cubs.

          • Pitcher John Lackey is scheduled to start the third game of the season for St. Louis.

          • Ryan Lavarnway was sent down Sunday to minor-league camp by the Baltimore Orioles.

          • Middlebrooks posted a .353/.411/.569/.979 slash line and appears to have beaten out Yangervis Solarte for the Padres’ starting job at third.

          • Pitcher Jake Peavy struggled in camp with a “dead arm” for the San Francisco Giants and is tentatively scheduled to make his first start next Sunday against the Padres.

          • Pitcher Anthony Ranaudo was optioned to Triple-A Red Rock by the Texas Rangers.

          • David Ross is a backup catcher with the Cubs.

          • Reliever Alex Wilson was optioned to Triple-A Toledo by the Tigers.

          • Pitcher Allen Webster was optioned to Triple-A Reno by Arizona.
