GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Arizona Cardinals coach Bruce Arians started training camp with some of his best quotes of the past four seasons.
He had a lot to live up to after his profanity-riddled appearance on “All or Northing” this summer. And Arians hasn’t disappointed.
As the monotony of training camp set in during Week 2, Arians was lively as ever. The most quotable coach in the NFL lived up to his billing.
Here’s a look at some of his best quotes from the second week of training camp:
On why Arizona’s young players didn’t practice well: “No, they’re loafing -- especially on special teams, where they’re going to make the team. Turn that tape on, they ain’t going fast enough to make this team.”
On how his young players responded the day after “loafing” through practice: "They thought about flipping burgers and bagging groceries, and, s---. They’d have to give change, and they can’t count."
On the first preseason depth chart getting released not meaning anything: “It’s invisible ink. It ain’t even pencil.”
On quarterback Matt Barkley’s growth during training camp: “Up and down. He’s like a yo-yo.”
On where Barkley has struggled -- Reads? Decision-making?: “All of the above.”
On offensive linemen Antoine McClain and John Wetzel’s training camp thus far: “They’re both extremely heavy sweaters. They’ll lose eight pounds in a practice. As they fatigue, their technique goes to s---, but their effort is still good.”
On what offensive lineman Earl Watford’s knee injury was: “Some bruise, MCL, sprain, whatever. It’s a knee, but it ain’t operable.”
