Micah Ojo, the No. 6 prospect in the 2027 SC Next 100, has committed to North Carolina, she announced Thursday, the Tar Heels' first prospect for next fall.
One of the most versatile prospects in the class on both ends, the 6-foot-1 wing chose the Tar Heels over finalists Duke and Vanderbilt.
"Choosing UNC truly felt like the perfect fit," Ojo told ESPN. "They've done an incredible job showing us what makes UNC so special, not just as a program, but as a community. The sense of family and pride throughout Chapel Hill is something I am incredibly excited to be a part of."
Ojo was named the 2025-26 Gatorade Virginia Girls Basketball Player of the Year after averaging 16.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 2.6 blocks and leading Princess Anne High School to an undefeated season and a fourth consecutive Class 5 state championship.
She also has two gold medals with USA Basketball from the 2025 FIBA U16 women's AmeriCup and this summer's FIBA U17 women's World Cup. In July's tournament, she averaged 11 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists, shooting 47.5% from the field and 42.9% from 3 and was named to the event's second team. Later that month, she led YKS, her independent club team since grade school, to the Power 24 circuit championship.
Upon her arrival in Chapel Hill next fall, Ojo will immediately add star power on the perimeter -- complementing the Tar Heels' top 2026 signee Kate Harpring -- as well as length and versatility to pair with highly touted sophomore Nyla Brooks. She has a realistic shot at cracking the starting lineup and playing significant minutes as a freshman. The Tar Heels prefer a style of play that gets them out fast on the break. Ojo's ability to play and defend multiple positions, rebound and initiate offense, as well as her length and lateral mobility, give them the perfect piece to do so.
The Tar Heels are coming off a second consecutive Sweet 16 appearance and enter the 2026-27 season with a top-10 recruiting class. For next fall, Courtney Banghart is heavily in the mix for five-stars Ivanna Wilson Manyacka, Sydney Savoury and Ryan Carter.
