Williams nets 26, No. 14 Stanford women top Cal 74-69
STANFORD, Calif. -- Kiana Williams scored a career-high 26 points with five 3-pointers and No. 14 Stanford won its seventh straight, defeating rival California 74-69 on Thursday night despite not making a shot for the final eight minutes.
A basket by Kaylee Johnson with 8:04 to play put the Cardinal on top 65-51 but after that they missed nine shots and had three turnovers. It took the Golden Bears a while to get going, making just one of their first seven shots of the fourth quarter with five turnovers.
Cal made four shots in a row, including three 3-pointers but got no closer than four as Stanford made 8 of 10 free throws in the last two minutes.
Brittany McPhee added 17 points on 5-of-20 shooting for the Cardinal (19-8, 13-2 Pac-12), who have won five straight over Cal. Williams tied the season high for a Pac-12 freshman this season.
Asha Thomas had four 3s and 20 points for the Golden Bears (17-9, 8-7).
