No. 14 Duke beats No. 20 Syracuse in big ACC matchup
DURHAM, N.C. -- Rebecca Greenwell scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead No. 14 Duke over No. 20 Syracuse 72-55 on Friday night.
Oderah Chidom added 16 points, Kendall Cooper 12 and Lexie Brown nine points, 11 rebounds and eight assists for the Blue Devils (21-4, 9-3 ACC), who won their fourth straight and sixth in their last seven.
Duke shot 50 percent while the Blue Devils, who have only allowed three teams to shoot above 40 percent, held Syracuse (17-8, 8-4) to 25 percent.
Alexis Peterson scored 19 points and Brittney Sykes 11 but the nation's top-scoring backcourt (42.8) combined to shoot just 9 of 31. Peterson moved to No. 2 on the all-time school scoring list. Briana Day added 11 points.
While Syracuse took 37 of its 67 shots from beyond the arc, making 10 3-pointers, Duke was outscoring the Orange 44-8 in the paint.
Duke took command early, scoring 12 straight points, six by Cooper, after Syracuse's Abby Grant opened the game with a 3-pointer. Duke led by 13 after the first quarter and remained ahead by double figures.
