No. 22 Colorado State women advance, 60-42 over New Mexico
LAS VEGAS -- Elin Gustavsson scored 18 points on Wednesday night and No. 22 Colorado State beat fifth-seeded New Mexico 60-42 in the Mountain West Conference tournament semifinals.
Keyora Wharry added 15 points and Jamie Patrick scored 12 as the top-seeded Rams (30-1) won their 27th straight.
Colorado State took control with a 12-0 run in the second quarter and pulled away for good with an 8-0 run midway through the fourth. The Rams led 57-37 with 5:13 left and held on to advance to the championship on Friday against the Fresno State-UNLV winner.
Khadijah Shumpert had 13 points for the Lobos (17-14), who shot 14 of 58 (24.1 percent) from the field.
New Mexico trailed 17-16 early in the second quarter but the Rams outscored the Lobos 14-2 to end the half. Shumpert's layup with 1:33 left in the third quarter was as close as New Mexico would get at 42-32.
