Miami Hurricanes @ Virginia Tech Hokies
No. 17 Miami women turn back Virginia Tech 57-45
BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Adrienne Motley scored 17 points and No. 17 Miami overcame a cold third quarter to beat Virginia Tech 57-45 on Thursday night.
The Hurricanes (18-3, 6-2 ACC) led 36-23 at the half but only scored four points in the third quarter. The Hokies (14-6, 2-5) didn't make much of a dent in the lead, scoring just eight points as the two times combined for 5-of-35 shooting.
However, Virginia Tech scored the first nine points of the four quarter to tie the game at 40. Vanessa Panousis made three free throws and after a steal by Chanette Hicks, Regan Magarity -- who led the Hokies with 11 -- hit a 3-pointer. Panousis followed with a 3 with 7:49 to play.
Motley's two free throws ended what had turned into a 17-0 run starting in the third quarter and the Hokies didn't get a basket until a Hicks 3 made it 50-43 with 2:13 left.
Jessica Thomas, who finished with 14 points, closed the game with four free throws.
