No. 24 Arizona State women defeat No. 19 Syracuse 61-54
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Kelsey Moos returned to the lineup and scored 13 points to help No. 24 Arizona State defeat 19th-ranked Syracuse 61-54 on Saturday.
Moos, a starting forward who missed the last four games with an injury, also had seven rebounds. With 5-foot-3 Elisha Davis, who had a career-high 10 boards, they led a 44-23 rebounding advantage. They were needed as the Sun Devils (5-3) committed 28 turnovers, though Syracuse (6-3) had 20 of its own. ASU's Arnecia Hawkins scored 12 points.
Arizona State ended Syracuse's 72-game nonconference home win streak while going to 12-1 on the road dating to last season.
Alexis Peterson had 15 points and Brianna Butler 13 for Syracuse.
Butler banked in a long 3-pointer to cut ASU's lead to 57-52 with 17 seconds left but Davis and Katie Hempen each hit two free throws.
The Sun Devils led the entire second half and were up 55-44 with 3:12 left.
