No. 17 Oklahoma women cruise past Winthrop 78-48
NORMAN, Okla. -- Peyton Little scored 17 points, Derica Wyatt added 16 more and No. 17 Oklahoma women cruised to a 78-48 win over Winthrop in the season opener for both teams Friday night.
Little finished 7 of 13 from the field, including a trio of 3-pointers, and had four assists. Wyatt shot 6 of 8 from the field, hitting 4 of 6 from beyond the arc. Kaylon Williams finished with 13 points and Vionise Pierre-Louis had 10.
Oklahoma, which has won 17 of its last 18 home openers, struck first with a 3-pointer from Maddie Manning to take a lead it never lost, shooting 53.6 percent from the floor and outrebounding Winthrop 42-22.
Arianne Whitaker led Winthrop with 14 points and Erica Williams had 11.
It was the first-ever meeting between the programs.
