Mitchell leads No. 11 Ohio State to 75-65 defeat of Liberty
LAS VEGAS -- Kelsey Mitchell sank 3 of 4 late-game foul shots and Lisa Blair added a layup as No. 11 Ohio State broke open a two-point game in the final 3:32 to defeat Liberty 75-65 on Friday.
Mitchell led the Buckeyes with 20 points, Alexa Hart added 18 and Ameryst Alston 13.
The would-be giant-killers from Liberty had 10 players score in the game, led by 18 points from Ashley Rininger. Catherine Kearney added 11 points and eight rebounds.
The taller Flames outrebounded Ohio State 42-31. Liberty, despite its greater size in the paint, appeared to be on the ropes several times, but began the final quarter with a 9-0 run, taking a brief 61-60 lead.
Shayla Cooper, Mitchell and Hart soon had the Buckeyes ahead 65-61, ending the game on a 15-4 run.
Liberty has defeated ranked opponents four times, and beat OSU coach Kevin McGuff in 2007 when he was with Xavier.
