Joyner, No. 25 Chattanooga women beat McNeese State 68-53
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Jasmine Joyner had 15 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks, and the No. 25 Chattanooga women never trailed on their way to a 68-53 win over McNeese State in the season opener for both teams Friday night.
Keiana Gilbert added 19 points on 9-of-13 shooting and Chelsey Shumpert scored 11 including three 3-pointers.
The Mocs took control in the second quarter, scoring 10 straight to go up 28-18 with 4:22 left in the half. Amber Donnes stopped the run momentarily with a 3 for the Cowgirls, but Chattanooga reeled off another 10 straight and ended the half up 38-24.
Gilbert's layup with 3:16 left in the third gave the Mocs their biggest lead at 53-28, and they stayed up by at least 20 until McNeese State closed the game on an 8-0 run.
Donnes had 16 points and Victoria Rachal added 11 for the Cowgirls.
