Jacksonville Dolphins @ Florida Gulf Coast Eagles
No. 20 Florida Gulf Coast into Atlantic Sun final, NCAA tourney
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Jenna Cobb scored 20 points on 9-for-13 shooting to lead top-seeded and 20th-ranked Florida Gulf Coast to a 62-42 win over No. 4 seed Jacksonville in the Atlantic Sun semifinal Wednesday night and clinch the automatic berth to the NCAA tournament.
FGCU (29-2) will play No. 3 seed Northern Kentucky for the conference championship Sunday, but the Norse are tournament-ineligible this season, which means the Eagles get the bid regardless of the outcome.
Cobb, who also pulled down six rebounds and had four steals, got help from Kaneisha Atwater and Taylor Gradinjan, who added 11 points apiece for FGCU, which broke away with a 14-2 run to close out the first half and never trailed. The win extended the Eagles' streak to 24 straight.
Jacksonville (12-17), which controlled the boards 44-26, was led by Briona Brown's 14 points. Sherranda Reddick added 10 points, and Kayla Gordon had 10 rebounds.
