WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Kahleah Copper scored 21 points and No. 22 Rutgers beat Purdue 58-49 on Thursday.
Copper was 8 of 17 from the floor with eight rebounds for Rutgers (15-5, 6-3 Big 10). Betnijah Laney had 18 points and 14 boards. Rutgers was a mere 1 of 4 on 3-pointers but had nine steals, led by Syessense Davis with four.
Purdue (10-11, 3-7) was led by Whitney Bays with 16 points and eight rebounds. Ashley Morrissette added 11 points.
Rutgers made one basket in the last three minutes of the first half, but led 26-22 at the break.
Purdue tied it at 28 not two minutes into the second after a Morrissette jumper, but a 10-4 run midway through the half lifted the Scarlet Knights to an 11-point lead and they held off Purdue down the stretch.
