No. 25 Chattanooga women cruise past Mercer 71-59
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Chelsey Shumpert hit four 3-pointers and finished with 19 points to help No. 25 Chattanooga beat Mercer 71-59 on Saturday for its 15th consecutive victory.
Chattanooga went on a 16-4 spurt, with nine points by Keiana Gilbert, through the first eight minutes of the second half to extend its lead to 56-33.
Gilbert had 13 points, 10 rebounds and five assists for Chattanooga (19-3, 7-0 Southern Conference). Jasmine Joyner added 16 points as the Mocs won their 41st straight conference game since 2013.
Chattanooga led by just two points with five minutes left in the first half, but closed on a 14-5 run, with eight straight points by Joyner, for a 40-29 lead. Joyner had 12 first-half points on 6-of-8 shooting. Alicia Williams paced Mercer with 14 points and seven rebounds.
Williams finished with 18 points and eight rebounds for Mercer (11-11, 3-3). Precious Bridges had 14 points and Kahlia Lawrence 12.
