No. 20 Florida St. women beat Virginia Tech 59-44
BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Shakayla Thomas scored 19 points, Maegan Conwright added 12 including three 3-pointers and No. 20 Florida State women cruised to a 59-44 win over Virginia Tech on Sunday.
Florida State (17-2, 4-1 ACC) has now won four straight, and 13 of its last 14, games.
A layup and a jumper by Thomas sparked an 11-2 run which gave Florida State a 21-9 about 8 minutes before the half.
The Seminoles closed the first half on an 8-0 run and a jumper by Morgan Jones followed by a Thomas layup gave Florida State its biggest lead, 36-14, with 17:31 remaining.
Hannah Young scored 10 during a 14-2 run that pulled Virginia Tech within nine, 40-31, with 11:36 to play, but the Hokies (9-10, 0-6) would get no closer.
Young led Virginia Tech with a career-high 19 points. Rachel Camp, the Hokies' leading scorer (16.2), had two points on 1-of-7 shooting.
