No. 23 Syracuse women beat Duquesne 90-84
PITTSBURGH -- Briana Day had 22 points and 19 rebounds on Wednesday night, and No. 23 Syracuse pulled away late from Duquesne 90-84.
Diamond Henderson added 22 points for the Orange (2-0), making all three of her 3-point attempts, and Cornelia Fondren made 5 of 6 free throws in the final minute.
Fondren hit a pair of free throws with 47 seconds left to cap a 12-3 run for the largest lead of the second half at 85-76.
April Robinson's 3-pointer with 19 seconds left pulled Duquesne (0-2) within 88-84.
Robinson followed with a quick steal off Alexis Peterson, but missed a jumper and Belma Nurkic missed a putback. The Dukes sent Fondren to the line where she sealed the win with two more free throws.
Peterson finished with 15 points for the Orange.
Deva'Nyar Workman led Duquesne 24 points and 11 rebounds.
