No. 21 FGCU women top Jacksonville for 22nd-straight win
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Kaniesha Atwater scored 29 on 11-of-14 shooting to help No. 21 Florida Gulf Coast women beat Jacksonville 78-47 Saturday night and win its school-record 22nd-consecutive game.
DyTiesha Dunson and Katie Meador added 13 points apiece for FGCU (27-2, 14-0 Atlantic Sun), which went undefeated in conference play for the third time in the past four seasons.
Atwater hit a pair of free throws with 9:50 left in the first to give the Eagles a 12-10 lead and they never trailed again.
Meador scored seven during a 15-2 run to close the first half and FGCU led 39-21 at the break.
Jacksonville (11-16, 6-8) made just 6 of 23 (26.1 percent) first-half field goals and trailed by at least 17 throughout the second.
Briona Brown led the Dolphins, who committed 19 turnovers, with 14 points. Loliya Briggs scored 12 and Brandi Buie 10.
FGCU has won five-consecutive conference titles and is 84-4 in A-Sun play during that time.
