Michigan women top Indiana 82-57 in Big 10 tourney
INDIANAPOLIS -- Cyesha Goree scored 18 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and had five assists as the seventh-seeded Michigan women rolled past No. 10 seed Indiana, 82-57, in the opening round of the Big Ten tournament on Thursday.
Shannon Smith added 16 points, Madison Ristovski 12 and Siera Thompson 10 for the Wolverines (18-12), who will face second-seeded Michigan State (21-8) in the quarterfinals on Friday.
Nicole Elmblad finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, two steals and three blocked shots in the win.
Indiana (18-12) jumped out to a 7-2 lead but Michigan responded with a 30-8 run and took a 43-28 advantage into the break.
Milika Taufa's layup with 9:50 to play pulled the Hoosiers within 10 before the Wolverines scored 12 straight to put the game away.
Alexis Gassion led Indiana, which shot 26 percent from 3-point range and 29 percent from the free-throw line, with 12 points.
