No. 17 North Carolina whips Pittsburgh 86-50
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Allisha Gray scored 21 points and Diamond DeShields added 19 as No. 17 North Carolina rolled to an 86-50 win over Pittsburgh on Thursday.
Coming off an 11-point win at No. 3 Duke on Monday, the Tar Heels (19-6, 7-4 ACC) shot 48.6 percent from the field and limited the Panthers (10-15, 2-9) to 27.9 percent, including a dismal 2 for 21 from 3-point range.
Asia Logan led Pitt with 14 points.
North Carolina broke away from a 2-2 tie with 13 straight points, seven from Xylina McDaniel. With Gray and DeShields making two baskets each, the Tar Heels had a 9-0 run for a 31-11 lead at the 7:28 mark. It was 42-25 at the half.
Midway through the second half a 10-0 surge pushed the lead to 74-40.
The Tar Heels only made half of their 16 free throws but were 8 of 20 from behind the arc.
