Oklahoma State Cowgirls @ Oklahoma Sooners
Oklahoma surprises No. 11 Oklahoma State
NORMAN, Okla. -- Sharane Campbell scored a career-high 28 points and Oklahoma extended its home dominance over 11th-ranked Oklahoma State with an 81-74 win in Norman on Saturday. Oklahoma State has now lost 16 consecutive times on the Sooners court.
The Cowgirls came in undefeated on the road in Big 12 play and took a 37-34 halftime lead behind 11 first-half points from Liz Donohoe in their quest to win at the Lloyd Noble Center for the first time since 1998. But Oklahoma (14-8, 5-4 Big 12) erased that lead early in the second half on six points from Nicole Griffin, and when Morgan Hook hit a short jumper with 16:18 left in the game, the Sooners took a 42-40 advantage and never trailed the rest of the way.
From that point, Campbell took over, scoring 11 of Oklahoma's next 13 points, as the Sooners pushed the lead to 55-46. OSU (18-3, 7-3) later cut the lead to 55-52 with 7:48 remaining as leading scorer Tiffany Bias collected five points in a 6-0 run, but that was as close as the Cowgirls would come the rest of the way, as OU eventually expanded their lead to 68-56 on Campbell's jumper with 4:34 left and OSU got no closer than the final margin after that.
Griffin was a defensive force in the game, blocking six shots to go along with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Sooner season scoring leader Aaryn Ellenberg was held to 10 points, nine below her average, but hit a key three point shot midway through the Sooners game-breaking run.
Campbell was 8-for-13 from the field and a perfect 11-11 from the free throw line on her way to the career high. She added eight rebounds and a pair of steals.
For Oklahoma State, Bias led five players in double figures with 18 points. Kendra Suttles added 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Donohue did not score in the final 23 minutes, finishing with those 11 first-half points.
Oklahoma hosts No. 9 Baylor on Monday night. Oklahoma State returns to action Wednesday night at home against Kansas.
