Liberty victory makes Bill Laimbeer 7th WNBA coach with 200 wins
ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Tina Charles had 29 points and nine rebounds, Tanisha Wright made a late go-ahead jumper, and the New York Liberty beat the Chicago Sky 88-85 on Friday night for coach Bill Laimbeer's 200th victory.
Laimbeer became the seventh coach in the WNBA history to reach the mark.
Tamera Young beat the shot-clock buzzer, off an Allie Quigley assist, to tie it at 85-all with 1:58 remaining but Chicago did not score again. Wright hit a long jumper with 29.4 seconds left to give New York an 87-85 lead and she went 1-of-2 from the line with 15.1 seconds left. Chicago elected to go for a quick inside shot but Elena Delle Donne missed a baseline jumper and the Sky didn't convert on two offensive rebounds.
Sugar Rodgers made five 3-pointers and scored 21 points for New York (14-6), which is ranked third in the AP power poll. She leads the WNBA with 62 makes from distance.
New York opened the third quarter on a 9-0 run for a 59-44 lead. Chicago didn't score until the 6:47 mark, but Quigley made four of the Sky's next five shots -- all from 3-point range.
Quigley hit six 3-pointers and scored a career-high 29 points for sixth-ranked Chicago (7-11). Jamierra Faulkner added 18 and Delle Donne was held to 14.
