Defending champions East Bengal powered to the top of the Indian Super League table with a 5-1 rout away to Inter Kashi, leaving the hosts floundering near the bottom of the standings.
Antonia Habas' side began the scoring in the eighth minute after Dani Ramírez produced an ingenious lob from the right side of the box into the opposite top corner that was as good as the one-touch interplay before it. There was a bit of fortune involved in the second goal in the 16th minute, when Albino Gomes allowed PV Vishnu's shot to squirm through his hands and into the net after a fast transition.
Kashi almost had an instant response two minutes later, when Rosenberg Gabriel saw his curled effort from the edge of the box crash off the post. It got worse for Kashi in the 22nd minute, when Wayne Vaz fouled Ramirez in the box, and Ake Loba dispatched the resulting penalty with aplomb to make it 3-0 to East Bengal.
The goals didn't stop and Kashi grabbed one back in the 28th minute when Lalchungnunga scooped the ball into his own net from Laldinliana Renthlei's low cross into the box with Ayush Chhikara lurking. East Bengal restored their three-goal lead in the 35th minute when Loba headed home Bipin Singh cross from the right. Ramirez even managed to hit the post just before half-time, but East Bengal led 4-1 going into the break.
The second half saw Ayush and Vishnu come close for either side, but with the result all but secured, Habas' side were content to keep things tight. Lukasz Zwolinski added gloss to the scoreline in the 81st minute, turning in Christopher Ikonomidis' low cross from the right from a yard out to seal the 5-1 victory.
