Jamie Vardy scores in 20th consecutive season as Burnley beaten by Wolves

Jamie Vardy scored in his 20th straight season on Friday when he struck for Burnley in their 2-1 Championship defeat by Wolves.

Vardy, 39, put Burnley ahead in the 20th minute at Turf Moor with a trademark run in behind the Wolves defence before finishing with his left foot past José Sá.

Wolves, though, took all three points and move up to sixth in the table, leaving Burnley fourth from bottom.

Friday's goal against Wolves was Vardy's first in the Championship since he found the back of the net against Preston North End in April 2024 when playing for Leicester City.

Before making his name as the spearhead of Leicester's remarkable Premier League title-winning team in 2015-16, Vardy was released by Sheffield Wednesday at the age of 16.

His 20-year goalscoring streak in senior football began with non-league Stocksbridge Park Steels where he made his first-team debut in 2006.

He moved up the pyramid, playing for the likes of Halifax Town and Fleetwood Town before joining Leicester in 2012 in a deal that was eventually worth more than £1 million -- a record for a non-league player at the time.

Vardy scored more than 180 goals and made more than 400 appearances during his 13-year spell at Leicester. He scored 24 goals when helping propel Leicester to their Premier League title in 2016 and won the Golden Boot in 2019-20.

The former England international left Leicester in 2025 and spent last year at Cremonense in Serie A before returning to English football to sign for Burnley this summer on a one-year contract.
