Mauricio Pochettino's son Maurizio set for European debut

The son of United States men's national team coach Mauricio Pochettino, Maurizio, is looking forward to making his European debut when his club, Inter Club d'Escaldes, plays at Mjällby in Thursday's UEFA Conference League.

Maurizio, 25, helped Inter Club d'Escaldes qualify for the competition to become the first Andorran side to play in the league or group phase of a European tournament.

Maurizio, who joined the Andorran club in 2025 and was part of the team that won the league title last season, told BBC Sport: "It was a great decision to come here. You have the chance to do something you might not get the chance to do elsewhere.

"More eyes are on you, the spotlight is bigger, it gives you a chance to push on in your career."

Born in Barcelona when his father was still playing for Espanyol, Maurizio came up through the academies at Southampton and Tottenham before spending six months at Watford.

The winger moved to Spain in 2022 and played in the semi-professional third and fourth tiers before arriving in Andorra.

Maurizio's father won the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2001 as a player with Paris Saint-Germain and coached Tottenham to the Champions League final in 2019.

Inter Club d'Escaldes will also face 1991 European Cup winners Red Star Belgrade, FC Copenhagen and LaLiga side Getafe in the Conference League.

"We know it will be a massive challenge playing against some great teams with much bigger budgets than us, but we also believe in ourselves," Maurizio said.

"We are going to try to show the rest of Europe that we are a team that can make things difficult for the bigger opponents, and that we can get points and belong here."
