AFC Bournemouth boss Marco Rose hopes getting a "real slap" in their 5-1 defeat at Chelsea will provoke a reaction from his players in the club's first home European fixture against Sturm Graz.

Having made a memorable debut in the Europa League with a 2-1 win at Real Sociedad, Rose's side slipped to a 1-0 loss against Liverpool and were then well beaten at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, having conceded twice in the opening three minutes.

With Bournemouth down in 18th place and still without a Premier League win from six matches, Rose feels a strong performance against the Austrians can help give everyone at the Vitality Stadium a lift.

"We want to show, and we have to show, a reaction," Rose said at a news conference. "For me the only good thing out of this [Chelsea] game is that we got a real slap result-wise.

"It is a tough challenge there [at Stamford Bridge], but if you start like we started, the task is getting much more difficult.

"After the game, everyone was really disappointed. The games before we always talked about our performances, how good they were and how we had not got enough points out of it. Now we got a real slap and now we have to show a reaction."

Cherries captain Adam Smith revealed there had been some strong words within the squad following the weekend's defeat as they look to put things right on Thursday night.

Rose added: "We always speak together and with each other. This is the most important thing, even in these times. We have to stick together.

"We are in not so comfortable a situation points-wise in the Premier League. We know that we are able to get points out of games and that we can perform well.

"We know that we are confident enough. For me it is now about proving these kind of things again. We did it already, but the point is on the level we need, that we must compete because we need results."

Justin Kluivert and forward Amine Adli, who has yet to feature this campaign because of a calf injury, are both expected back in the squad.
