Club América to honour retired Mexico legend Guillermo Ochoa

Club América will pay tribute to their former goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa after the Mexican legend retired from football after competing at the 2026 World Cup.

Ochoa, 41, will be honored during Club América's Liga MX game against Pachuca on Oct. 25 at the Banorte stadium.

He played his last game on June 25 when he came on as a substitute in Mexico's 3-0 win over Czechia in a World Cup group game, his 154th appearance for the national team.

In doing so, Ochoa joined Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as the only players to have appeared in six World Cups.

Ochoa was honored by the Mexican Football Federation earlier this month during Mexico's 2-0 loss to Chile in an international friendly in Los Angeles.

A youth product of Club América, Ochoa made his debut with the first team aged 18 in 2004 and won six titles during his seven years at the Mexico City-based outfit.

He became the first Mexico-born goalkeeper to play in Europe when he transferred to French club Ajaccio in 2011.

His European career also included stints with Málaga, Granada, Standard Liège, Salernitana, AVS Futebol, and AEL Limassol, punctuated by a three-year return to América from 2019 to 2022.
