Atlético Madrid captain Jorge Koke Resurrección will not play in the Champions League game against Manchester United on Tuesday after his mother died.
Atlético said Koke's mother, Ana Merodio Borja, died early Tuesday in Madrid. The club did not provide a cause of death.
Atlético added UEFA authorised a moment of silence before the game at Metropolitano Stadium, and their players will wear black armbands.
A moment of silence will also be observed ahead of Atlético's Youth League match. Koke's brother, Borja Resurrección, is an assistant coach of Atlético's under-19 squad.
The club's flag outside the Metropolitano is flying at half-staff.
