Coventry's Jack Rudoni dedicates goal to grandmother after heart attack

Coventry midfielder Jack Rudoni dedicated his goal in their 4-1 triumph over Newcastle to his grandmother who is in hospital after suffering a heart attack last week.

The 25-year-old stepped up for the penalty after Sidiki Cherif was felled by goalkeeper Lukás Hornícek and calmly slotted into the bottom right corner to give Coventry an early lead.

Rudoni wheeled away to celebrate his first goal of the season and lifted his shirt up with a message that read "get well soon nan" in front of the camera.

Rudoni also confirmed she is now stable and recovering in hospital where she would be watching the game.

"Last week, she unfortunately had a heart attack. She's stable, she'll be watching this from hospital and she's a strong woman so she'll definitely come through," he told Sky Sports.

"That one was for you, nan. I just wanted to dedicate it to her watching it in hospital."

Sky Blues boss Frank Lampard says he has had to put an arm around his player in what was a difficult week for him.

"I've been there for him, I've got understanding of those type of situations and he's such a great lad. He's so close to his family, his mum, his nan, and I knew that already," Lampard said.

"He's had a tough period for different reason with injuries. When I heard the news last week, he could have what he wanted from me in terms of support. I know what it means for him so I'm pleased he has had his moment for his family so he can show that support for her like that."
