Source: Colombia, U.S. battling for Inter Miami U20 dual national Alexander Shaw

Inter Miami midfielder Alexander Shaw is currently being pursued by both Colombia and the United States on a youth Under 20 level, a source confirmed to ESPN.

He previously featured for the United States youth national team in the 2026 Concacaf U20 champion, reaching the final after a perfect group stage. Shaw helped the USYNT to victories against Haiti, El Salvador and Cuba without conceding a goal.

Shaw scored in the 5-0 victory over Cuba.

The USYNT concluded the tournament as runners-up after falling 2-0 to Mexico.

Shaw has previously received call ups from the Colombia U20, but a source confirms that all requests have been declined by Inter Miami for occurring during Major League Soccer regular season action.

Shaw, however, joined the Colombian national team during the World Cup as a sparring under manager Nestor Lorenzo while the squad trained in Miami.

A source confirmed to ESPN that both Colombia and the United States are looking for Shaw to join the team for the upcoming U-20 World Cup in 2027.

Inter Miami recently signed Shaw to a contract through the end of the 2026 MLS season, with options to extend through June 2027, the 2027-28 and 2028-29 seasons.

He's made five appearances this season and recorded a goal in the 7-1 victory over CF Montreal.
