Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo joins Charlton on loan

Charlton have signed goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo on a season-long loan from Wrexham.

Nigeria international Okonkwo, 24, helped the Welsh club secure back-to-back promotions up to the Championship.

Since arriving from Arsenal -- initially on loan -- in 2023, he has made 121 appearances for the club, conceding 127 goals and keeping 47 clean sheets.

But he has lost his place to summer signing Anthony Patterson -- who joined from Sunderland on a permanent deal -- in north Wales and said he is relishing a fresh challenge ahead in London.

"Coming here, it's another season where I really want to do well and improve again," Okonkwo said on the Charlton website.

"It's a great group. They have welcomed me really well and I can't wait to get to know them even more."

Okonkwo came through Arsenal's academy but never made an appearance for the first team. He had loan spells at Crewe Alexandra and Sturm Graz before joining Wrexham.

After switching his allegiance away from England, Okonkwo made his debut for Nigeria in May's Unity Cup semifinal, a match which took place at Charlton's stadium, The Valley.

Okonkwo also played in the final as Nigeria beat Jamaica 3-0.
