Al Ahly needed penalties to defeat Palmeiras and claim third place in the FIFA Club World Cup on Thursday.
The match ended scoreless before Felipe Melo, Luiz Adriano and Rony failed to convert their chances from the spot for the Brazilians. Oluwafemi Ajayi, Mohamed Hany and Badr Banoun succeeded for the African champs.
Bayern Munich beat Mexico's Tigres UANL 1-0 in the final later on Thursday thanks to Benjamin Pavard's winner on the hour. The title marks Bayern's sixth trophy in less than nine months.
