Barcelona v Alavés
Anthony Gordon, Lamine Yamal, Raphinha on target as Barcelona hit Alavés for six
Free-scoring Barcelona put six past Alavés as they bounced back from defeat against Real Madrid in style.
A 2-1 loss to their rivals last time out represented their first dropped points of the season but it was back to business as usual as the table toppers thumped their visitors 6-1 at the Nou Camp.
There were two goals apiece for Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, as well as one from Fermín López and a late topper from England's Anthony Gordon coming off the bench. Mariano Díaz grabbed the late consolation for the Basque outfit.
Hansi Flick was without a handful of first-teamers, including Jules Koundé, Eric García, Andreas Christensen, Dani Olmo, Roony Bardghji, and Xavi Espart, but their collective absence was barely noticed as they made an emphatic start.
Lopez was straight into his work, driving through the defensive line and laying on a simple chance for Raphinha to slot home after just eight minutes.
Abde Rebbach was off target when he had an early opportunity to return fire and the gulf in quality showed when Lopez doubled the lead with a fiery finish. Cutting into the penalty area on the right he read a pass from Yamal then rifled powerfully across Antonio Sivera from a tight angle.
There were already signs of damage limitation by the time Sivera made a wonderful save from Yamal but that merely delayed further pain. Lopez once again found himself at the heart of things, sniping possession in midfield and unleashing Raphinha with a beautifully weighted pass.
The Brazilian let the ball run to the edge of the area then unleashed a precision left-foot finish. With seconds to go before the half-time whistle, the hosts showcased their dominance again, stroking a long sequence of passes in the final third before Yamal pulled the trigger with a bullet of a first-time finish.
With an hour gone and the urgency abating, Gabriel Jesus entered the fray and laid on Barca's fifth with a neat touch. Yamal's delicate flicked finish was initially chalked off for offside flag, but replays overruled the flag.
Barca were not satisfied yet, rounding out their night's work through another of Flick's replacements. Gordon was the beneficiary of a defence-splitting ball from Rodri, with the former Newcastle winger charging down on goal then lifting his shot calmly over the keeper for his first league goal.
But the last word went to a former Real man, with Diaz taking advantage of some slack defending in stoppage time as he went clear and caught Joan García flat-footed.
