Commentary
It's all over at the Stadium of Light, as Sunderland and Leeds United cancel each other out at every single turn to draw 0–0 after a frantic second half! Chances were hard to come by in the first half, and also proved to be in the second for one of the teams, with Leeds doing little to test Roefs and producing just 0.57 xG. Gudmundsson, Aaronson and Muharemovic had half-chances early in the half, but that soon gave way for a wave of Sunderland pressure that saw them go close on several occasions. The Black Cats racked up 0.91 xG as Angulo forced two top-class saves from Trafford before O'Nien headed over the bar, with further chances coming and going for Alderete, Angulo and Talbi off the bench. Leeds rallied late on as Tanaka and Longstaff were both denied by Roefs, with Longstaff sending a last-gasp shot into his own player before Sunderland scrambled to clear their lines. That scramble was indicative of a contest between two teams lacking the composure they needed to win this game, and Sunderland stay bottom of the pile despite snapping a four-game losing run. Leeds' fifth draw of the season sees them climb to seventh in the Premier League table, but a second half spent mostly on the back foot will be a worry going forward.
FULL-TIME: SUNDERLAND 0–0 LEEDS UNITED.
This will be a ninth away league draw for Leeds in 2026, the most of any Premier League side and their most in a calendar year since 1995 (also nine).
BLOCKED!!! Leeds are denied by a case of friendly fire!! Okafor draws Roefs off his line to pull the ball back across goal from the left, but Longstaff's strike into the empty net is blocked by Nmecha getting in the way! Okafor is found by Justin's follow-up cross from the right-hand byline, but can only volley back into a crowd of Sunderland defenders!
O'Nien's latest long throw attempt is on the money and Reinildo manages to force a corner, but Talbi's take from the left is caught in the winds once again and floats behind for a Leeds goal-kick!
CHANCES!! Sunderland's attempts to scramble clear from only results in more pressure, with Okafor's close-range strike blocked behind for another corner. Stach's delivery flashes right across the face, but it's glanced away at the near post, and Roefs' long kick clear almost catches Trafford out of position at the other end!
