Ulster Rugby kept their PRO14 playoff hopes alive with a stunning 32-20 bonus-point win over Edinburgh in Murrayfield.

Ulster were quickest off the mark, with three tries in the opening 25 minutes with Darren Dave, Charles Piutau and John Cooney all touching down as the visitors raced into a 19-6 lead.

Duncan Weir kicked Edinburgh into an early 3-0 lead inside nine minutes but Ulster struck back after a break from Jacob Stockdale down the touchline before offloading to Cave who ran in the score. Cooney converted but Weir once again closed the gap with a penalty after Ulster were penalised at the breakdown.

There wasn't cause for alarm though as their attack looked formidable with two tries in four minutes as first Piutau and then Cooney put Ulster in a commanding 19-6 lead.

But Edinburgh needed something and up stepped Weir to intercept on his own 10 metre line to run in for the score. Six points behind Edinburgh looked to be gathering steam and only for Blair Kinghorn's chip to have too much legs for him to touch down before the ball went dead.

Cooney added a penalty 10 minutes after the restart, but Edinburgh fought back and when Ulster were pinged five metres from their own line, Nigel Owens then awarded a penalty try as Ulster's scrum crumbled under pressure.

Cooney stretched Ulster's lead to five and in a frantic finish they managed a bonus-point win thanks to Iain Henderson crossing at the death.

Ulster have a game in hand over Edinburgh, who they now trail by eight points with Edinburgh facing Scarlets and Glasgow Warriors in their final two games of the season.
