Jimmy Gopperth's last gasp conversion saw Wasp deny Toulouse victory

A last gasp Nathan Hughes try, converted by Jimmy Gopperth secured a 20-20 draw for Wasps against Toulouse in Champions Cup Pool Two action.

Wasps lived off scraps in the opening half as Toulouse laid siege to their line, but couldn't cross the whitewash.

Sébastien Bézy sent a fifth inute penalty wide and having been penalised for offside, Wasps took a 3-0 lead courtesy of the boot of Jimmy Gopperth. Bézy replied with two penalties on 24 adn 31 but Gopperth had the sides level at the break with his second kick of the game.

it should have been worse for Wasps who conceded two penalties at the scrum five metres from their own line on the stroke of half-time before but a massive defensive shift saw the ball held up as Toulouse attacked on the third scrum.

The second-half began with another barrage of Toulouse attacks and they were finally rewarded when Cipriani opted for a chip metres from his own try-line. Thierry Dusautoir charged the kick down and Johnson was on hand to touch the ball down for a 13-6 lead 10 minutes after the restart.

But as Toulouse tired, Christian Wade found more and more space and it was his break that set up Wasps match-leveling converted try as the ball went through the hands of Kyle Eastmond and Elliot Daly onto Josh Bassett who raced in to score. Gopperth tied the game with a conversion with 16 minutes remaining.

Gael Fickou seemed to break Wasps hearts when he tore through the Wasps defense to touch down. Bézy converted and Toulouse were hammering the Toulosue line as the game entered the final 10 minutes but a master defensive display prevented Toulouse from getting a clinching score.

And after being denied late by a converted try against Connacht last week, the Toulouse fans were left whistling in dismay once more as Nathan Hughes walked over Paul Perez to dot down on the right. It left Jimmy Gopperth with a difficult kick but one he had the measure of to keep Wasps second in the pool and leave France with what could be two precious points.
