Carlos Yulo misses floor, vault podium at Rotterdam Worlds

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo missed the podium in both the floor exercise and vault finals at the 54th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

With only a month of preparation after his historic stint at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, a seemingly exhausted Yulo finished eighth in the floor exercise before settling for seventh in the vault.

He scored 13.244 points in the floor exercise final on Saturday, Oct. 24, before tallying 13.883 in the vault final the following day.

Yulo entered the floor exercise final as the second-ranked qualifier with 14.500 points, but saw his medal bid slip away after a failed landing on his second tumbling pass.

The 26-year-old Filipino gymnast recorded a 5.800 difficulty score and 7.633 execution score with a 0.10 bonus, but incurred a 0.30 penalty.

It marked a drop from his bronze-medal finish at last year's edition in Jakarta. Yulo last won the world title in the event in 2019 in Stuttgart, Germany.

United States' Frederick Richard captured gold with 14.633 points, becoming the first American in 23 years to win the world title in the men's floor exercise. Great Britain's Jake Jarman claimed silver with 14.600, while Israel's Artem Dolgopyat took bronze with 14.466.

Yulo also surrendered his men's vault title, finishing seventh among eight finalists after capturing gold in Jakarta in 2025.

After scoring 13.333 on his first attempt, Yulo bounced back with 14.433 on his second vault, but his average of 13.883 fell short of the podium - significantly lower than his 14.266 qualifying-round average.

Armenia's Artur Davtyan reclaimed the vault crown with an average of 14.850 points, while Jarman settled for silver with 14.650.

Sebastian Sponevik took the bronze medal with 14.366 points, becoming the first Norwegian gymnast to win a medal in any event at the World Championships.

Yulo also placed 34th in the men's individual all-around with 77.631 points.

Despite missing out on medals in Rotterdam, Yulo has amassed eight World Championships medals in his career, including three golds, two silvers and three bronzes.
