Taylor Hall exits Hurricanes' 4-2 win with upper-body injury

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Carolina Hurricanes forward Taylor Hall suffered an upper-body injury Tuesday night and did not return to his team's 4-2 win over the Washington Capitals.

Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour did not have an official update on Hall in his postgame media availability, other than telling reporters but "that doesn't look good."

The Hurricanes are already without captain Jordan Staal, the playoff MVP in their Stanley Cup championship run last season. He will miss one to two months with a torn calf muscle, the team announced before Tuesday's win.

Staal, 38, was a late scratch for the Hurricanes' game in Philadelphia on Sunday. He suffered the injury while warming up before Carolina's pregame skate.

Hall, 34, who has three goals and five points this season, was also a key cog in the club's title run. He finished with seven goals and 19 points in Carolina's 19 postseason games, averaging 16:28 on the ice along the way.

Though short-handed, Carolina doubled up the Capitals, thanks to Andrei Svechnikov, who scored two goals, including the winner with 6:04 left in the third period.

Eric Robinson and Mark Jankowski also scored for the Hurricanes, who have won six straight. Goalie Pyotr Kochetkov made 20 saves and improved to 4-0-0 this season.

Boone Jenner and Justin Holl scored for Washington. Ryan Leonard added two assists and Logan Thompson stopped 31 shots.
