TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona Cardinals running back Jeremiyah Love is headed to injured reserve because of a high ankle sprain that will sideline the rookie for four to five weeks, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Love, the third overall pick in this year's NFL draft, previously had been dealing with a different ankle sprain this season. The former Notre Dame star will miss at least four weeks while on IR.
Love walked off the field in the first half Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys and slammed his helmet to ground on the sideline. After being looked at by trainers, he went into the blue injury tent and later walked to the locker room.
Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur said Love's most recent ankle issue isn't related to his preseason or early-season ankle injuries, one of which happened to each ankle. The first injury occurred against the Raiders in Arizona's second preseason game, and the second came early in the season.
"It's a new portion of the ankle," LaFleur said Monday. "So, I'll keep it at that."
Love has rushed for 268 yards and one touchdown over six games during his injury-plagued rookie campaign.
Veteran Tyler Allgeier replaced Love as Arizona's primary running back Sunday, gaining 191 yards from scrimmage and scoring two touchdowns in Arizona's overtime victory in Dallas.
