Why is Caleb Williams being coy about his injury? (2:15)

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Quarterback Caleb Williams was officially listed as questionable on the Chicago Bears' final injury report ahead of their Week 6 game at the Atlanta Falcons (Sunday, 1 p.m. ET, Fox).

Williams was a full participant during the Bears' Wednesday walk-through and practice sessions Thursday and Friday. The quarterback said he had to go through "a bunch of medical protocols" before being cleared by team trainers, which could happen before the team leaves for Atlanta.

"I'm hopeful we'll have more clarity at the end of the day today," Bears coach Ben Johnson said Friday. "He looked good [Thursday] for one practice, but we've got to be able to stack a few back-to-back. He got some good work in on Wednesday, even though we walked through, he went through his own throwing session beforehand. Part of the plan, and he's on track right now."

Williams missed three straight games while recovering from a hamstring injury sustained during the fourth quarter of a Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. On Thursday, he took issue with the reporting around his injury, for which he claimed that "nothing that has come out that has been right about what it is and what it has been."

Johnson did not sense that his quarterback was frustrated with anything other than not being able to play.

"I, honestly, I didn't feel any frustration from him," Johnson said. "He was in this little bit of a no-man's land, 'Hey, what do I what do with myself? I've never been in this situation. I've never been in the training room this much. I've never been second or third fiddle in the quarterback room ever in my life.' Just like, 'I just need a little guidance on how I can best help and serve.'

"He's a captain, he wants to do that desperately. 'How can I help us win in this different setting?' I don't know that I felt frustration, other than an eagerness to get back out there and help the guys on the field."

While Williams' status is questionable, the Bears will be without running back Kyle Monangai for a second straight game. Monangai did not practice this week while recovering from thumb and toe injuries, the latter of which he visited a specialist for last week.

"It wasn't one of those things we felt like we needed to put him on IR for," Johnson said. "So, it's still week-to-week, and as far as I know he's trending in the right direction."

Chicago will also be down three starters on defense, with defensive end Montez Sweat's two-game suspension for violating the PED policy and injuries that are sidelining linebacker T.J. Edwards (hamstring) and Dayo Odeyingbo (quad) in Week 6.
