DETROIT -- The New York Jets' injury-riddled receiving corps took another hit Sunday with the news that Adonai Mitchell, their most-targeted player last week, was declared inactive with a finger injury.
This means Garrett Wilson and Isaiah Williams will be their top two wideouts Sunday against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field. Their three backups, none of whom were on the roster at the start of the season, were added this week to the active roster.
That group is led by veteran Sterling Shepard, who arrived only two weeks ago on the practice squad. The others are Malik McClain, an undrafted rookie, and first-year player Jamaal Pritchett. Both will make their NFL debut.
Mitchell was injured Thursday when he caught a finger in a teammate's jersey during practice. He was limited on Friday and listed as questionable.
Coach Aaron Glenn claimed the finger isn't fractured, yet Mitchell was spotted Friday with a heavy wrap on his right hand, with his index and middle fingers splinted.
Mitchell, their top vertical threat, has been targeted a team-high 15 times. He has nine receptions for 123 yards.
The Jets have three receivers on injured reserve -- first-round pick Omar Cooper Jr, Tim Patrick and Arian Smith. The Jets also are without starting tight end Mason Taylor (thumb).
