News: 1 day agoBenson (knee) reverted to the Cardinals' injured reserve list Tuesday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Spin: Benson underwent surgery in early October last year for a meniscus injury he suffered in the Cardinals' Week 4 loss to the Seahawks, but after returning the running back could never get right and he had trouble staying on the practice field. The 24-year-old's struggles, combined with the Cardinals' crowded running back room, caused him to be placed on waivers to begin the week, and there were no takers. If he can fix his knee troubles he could negotiate an injury settlement in an attempt to find another team to play for in 2026.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Benson's pro career is off to a slow start due primarily to a variety of injuries. The 2024 third-round pick was essentially splitting the Arizona backfield with James Conner last season, but he was never able to return to the field after suffering a knee injury in Week 4. He was effective prior to the injury, averaging 5.5 yards per carry, and was busy as a receiver (four-plus targets in three straight games). The 24-year-old heads into 2026 no longer assured of a role with a new coaching staff and after the team added Jeremiyah Love and Tyler Allgeier to a running back room that still includes Conner. Benson's best days are likely ahead of him, but his only shot at 2026 fantasy relevance is a new home or several injuries above him on the Arizona depth chart.
