Crumpton has 17; Canisius pulls away from Quinnipiac 63-53
HAMDEN, Conn. -- Jermaine Crumpton scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half and Canisius pulled away late to defeat Quinnipiac 63-53 on Sunday.
Aryon Hutton knocked down a 3-pointer to pull Quinnipiac, which trailed 51-40 with 8:15 remaining, within 54-53 with 2:32 to play. From there, the Bobcats missed their last six shots and had a turnover.
Chris Atkinson hit a 3-pointer for the Golden Griffins (9-10, 4-4 Metro Atlantic) with 1:24 to go and added two free throws at 41 seconds. Phil Valenti scored the final four points.
Kassius Robertson added 11 points for Canisius, which came averaging 81.2 points while the Bobcats allowed 72.3. The Golden Griffins made 13 of 27 shots in the second half.
Hutton led Quinnipiac (5-11, 2-5) with 15 points and Daniel Harris had 14. The Bobcats shot just 34.5 percent (19 of 55) and had 16 turnovers that Canisius turned in 21 points.
