The Memphis Grizzlies have waived veteran point guard D'Angelo Russell, making him a free agent one month before the start of the season.
Russell, 30, began last season with the Dallas Mavericks but has since been traded twice, first to Washington as part of the Anthony Davis trade in February and then to Memphis as part of a six-team deal over the summer. He never ended up playing a game for the Wizards or Grizzlies.
Russell averaged 10.2 points and 4.0 assists in 26 games for Dallas last year. His last strong year came in 2023-24 for the Los Angeles Lakers, when he averaged 18 points and five assists, and he's been traded several times since.
In a corresponding roster move Friday, the Grizzlies signed undrafted guard Brendan Hausen, who played four seasons at Kansas State and Iowa.
