The Dallas Mavericks are offering a "bounty" to whoever unpacks Cooper Flagg's debut patch autograph card via a package similar to that of a blockbuster NBA trade.
Dallas announced the proposed trade Thursday, when the card officially hit packs, offering a plethora of items for the lucky fan who finds it.
Whoever retrieves the 1-of-1 Topps card can deliver it to the franchise for a package that includes two Mavericks season premium lower level tickets for 32 years, a signed, game-worn Flagg rookie jersey plus a postgame photo with the star.
The winner will receive a road trip experience to see the Mavericks face the Boston Celtics with round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations and game tickets covered. A private photo shoot with the Rookie of the Year trophy, which Flagg won last season, along with the Larry O'Brien Trophy, as well as a VIP tour of Dallas' practice facility with a team meet-and-greet are also included. A "private basketball experience" for up to 10 guests at American Airlines Center rounds out the offer.
Terms of the offer are shared with the trade's finalization being subject to a definitive written agreement and with the understanding that "this is a proposed trade." Think of it as just another episode of "Deal or No Deal."
Flagg signed the card at the third annual Fanatics Fest last month. Fanatics Collectibles CEO Mike Mahan told ESPN at the event that it's the most anticipated basketball card "in a long, long time." Flagg said at Fanatics Fest that he was "a little nervous" right before signing it.
"I want to do my best," Flagg added. He recommended whoever gets it should hold on to it because "it will gain value as I go through my career."
The card could fetch millions, according to Geoff Wilson, founder of Sports Cards Investor.
"When Paul Skenes' sold for $1.11 million last year, that really opened collectors up to the potential of rookie debut patch autograph cards," Wilson said. "I said when Flagg has one and it sells, it'll exceed that, maybe $1.5 million."
The Pittsburgh Pirates proposed a similar trade to the recipient of said Skenes' 1-of-1 rookie debut patch autograph card in 2024.
Among other items, the fan would receive two Pirates season tickets behind home plate for the next 30 years and a meet-and-greet with Skenes. Even Skenes' girlfriend, Livvy Dunne, offered a seat in her suite for a game. An 11-year-old from the Los Angeles area fetched the card but declined the deal, putting it up for auction instead. It sold for a record $1.11 million.
Flagg averaged 21 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists last season and became the youngest player in NBA history to have 50 points in a game. His rookie card could soon add an off-court record to his name.
