Davis scores 20 to fuel Spurs past Bucks
RJ Davis scored 20 points to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 90-80 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks in NBA summer league action on Sunday at the Pavilion in Las Vegas. The Spurs built a large first-half lead and withstood a late rally from the Bucks.
San Antonio received balanced scoring in support of Davis. Emanuel Miller and rookie Ja'Kobi Gillespie, the 42nd pick in the draft, each finished with 13 points. Miller also grabbed six rebounds. Hyunjung Lee scored 12 points, while Igor Milicic Jr. added 10 points and six rebounds. Rookie Maliq Brown, selected 44th, made a significant defensive impact, recording a team-high nine rebounds to go with four points, five assists, four steals and two blocks.
The Bucks were led by a standout performance from rookie Brayden Burries, the No. 10 pick who topped all scorers with 26 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including four 3-pointers, and added three rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks. Cormac Ryan was the only other Milwaukee player to reach double figures, contributing 15 points and five rebounds. Nate Ament, the 13th pick, finished with seven points and five rebounds for the Bucks, while fellow rookie Malique Lewis, the 60th selection, had two points and four rebounds.
The Spurs jumped out to a 25-10 lead after the first quarter and extended it to 42-25 by halftime. Their largest lead was 23 points. Milwaukee mounted a comeback in the second half, cutting the deficit to six points in the final minute, but San Antonio sealed the game from the free throw line.
Both teams struggled with ball security, each committing 23 turnovers.
