Bellator fighters Kimbo Slice and Ken Shamrock each tested positive for anabolic steroids and elevated testosterone-to-epitestosterone (T/E) ratios on Feb. 19, according to records obtained by ESPN.com.
Those violations carry a potential one-year suspension and $5,000 fine, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations statutes.
The positive tests stem from Bellator 149 on Feb. 19 in Houston. Slice (6-2) picked up a TKO win against Dada 5000, birth name Dhafir Harris. That result will likely change to a no-contest. Shamrock (28-17-2) suffered a first-round TKO loss to Royce Gracie.
Slice, birth name Kevin Ferguson, tested positive for the anabolic steroid nandrolone and a T/E ratio of 6.4. The TDLR uses a maximum T/E ratio threshold of 4.0. It is the first positive drug test of the 42-year-old fighter's career.
Shamrock, 52, also tested positive for nandrolone and an elevated T/E ratio of 12.4. He also tested positive for traces of methadone, which is used to treat ongoing pain or addiction to narcotic drugs. This is the second failed drug test of Shamrock's career. In 2009, he tested positive for stanozolol and to forms of nandrolone. He received a one-year suspension from the California State Athletic Commission.
Bellator officials declined to comment immediately on both failed tests. Shamrock is 0-2 as a Bellator fighter. He came out of five-year retirement last year to fight Slice at Bellator 138. Slice is currently 2-0 under the Bellator banner.
Bellator 149 produced the highest ratings in company history, according to figures released by Spike TV. The co-main event between Slice and Harris drew an average of 2.5 million viewers.
