Frank Mir to fight Todd Duffee

With a UFC trilogy bout against former UFC champion Brock Lesnar off the table, Frank Mir has agreed to fight Todd Duffee on July 15 in San Diego.

The heavyweight bout, which will headline UFC Fight Night at Valley View Casino Center, was announced during UFC Tonight on Wednesday.

After knocking out Antonio Silva on Feb. 22, Mir (17-9) had expressed interest in a third bout against Lesnar. At that time, Lesnar, 37, was considering a return to the Octagon and was even seen with UFC brass at a pay-per-view event on Feb. 28 in Los Angeles.

On March 24, however, Lesnar announced his official retirement from mixed martial arts.

Fighting out of Las Vegas, the 35-year-old Mir now turns his attention elsewhere. His first-round knockout win against Silva was his first victory since December 2011.

Duffee (9-2) is also coming off a first-round finish in his last bout. He knocked out Anthony Hamilton at UFC 181 in December. It was the 29-year-old's first appearance in 24 months, due to a rare nerve disorder.

A member of American Top Team, Duffee is 3-1 in the UFC with three first-round knockouts.
